Ethyl Acetate is a colorless liquid with a characteristic sweet smell sometimes described as pear-like. It is produced via the Fischer esterification of ethanol and acetic acid. It is used in glues, nail polish removers and to decaffeinate tea and coffee. Ethyl acetate can also be used a wide range of other applications as a solvent such as lacquer and coatings products.
