Adipic Acid is a dicarboxylic acid mainly used in the production of nylon 66. It is also a food ingredient to impart a tart taste to gelatin mixtures and is assigned the E-number E-355 in the European Union. Some polyurethane esters and plasticizers used in PVC such as Dioctyl Adipate are derived from Adipic Acid. It is produced using a mix of Cyclohexanone and Cyclohexanol known as KA-Oil.
