About half of the global demand for ZnO is in the rubber industry where, together with stearic acid, it is used to vulcanize rubber. It is also a component in ceramic glazes, sunscreen, anticorrosive coatings for galvanized iron, plastics, glass, cement, lubricants, paints, ointments, adhesives, sealants, pigments, foods, batteries, ferrites, fire retardants, and first-aid tapes. There are three main means of production of zinc oxide resulting is different characteristics: French Process, American Process and Wet Process.
